Introduction

Route Templates in Mover TMS let you create fully configured routes in seconds instead of manually setting them up every time with Orders and Route Planning. They store all the key details – stops, vehicle type, instructions, and tags – so you can reuse them whenever needed.

This feature saves time, reduces repetitive admin work, and ensures your routes are consistent and accurate – making planning easier for both operations and drivers.

Getting Started

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Access to Templates in Mover TMS (permissions: View, Edit Template).

  • Access to Creating Routes from Templates in Mover TMS (permissions: View Template, Create Route).

  • A clear understanding of your route patterns (fixed shifts, recurring deliveries, or standby operations).

  • The required route details ready, such as stop addresses, vehicle types, and timing.

How the Feature Works

Creating a Route Template

Go to the Templates List -> New Template

Create New Template

  • Add a Template Name and optional Description.

  • Set Vehicle Type, Reference, and Tags (e.g., Standby, Kontrol), to be able to identify the Routes you created from a Template.

💡 Tip: use tag "template" for easy identification.

Add Stops

  • Save your Template before being able to add stops.

  • Minimum of 2 stops.

  • Must start with a Pickup and end with a Delivery (Pickup → Delivery rules apply).

Configure Stop Details

  • Address, stop type, planned time, and task time.

  • Optional: instructions, tags, driver tasks.

Save Template

  • Must pass validation rules to be usable.

Use case example

Setting up a standby shift with Route Templates

Imagine you want to schedule a driver for a 4-hour standby shift. The driver should be available from 08:00 to 12:00.

Here’s how you can set it up in a Route Template:

  • Pickup stop (shift start):

    • Arrival from: 08:00

    • Arrival to: 08:00

    • Task time: 1 minute

  • Delivery stop (shift end):

    • Arrival from: 11:59

    • Arrival to: 12:00

    • Task time: 1 minute

Because the pickup and delivery are at the same location, this creates a “standby route” with an estimated duration of exactly 4 hours (from 08:00 to 12:00).

This setup allows you to track the driver’s standby time in the system while keeping everything clear and precise for scheduling and payment.

Creating a Route from a Template

Select “Create Route from Template”

  • Available in Routes List, Route Timelines, and Template page.

Choose a Template

  • Only valid templates are listed.

Set Date

  • Defaults to today; future dates allowed, past dates not.

Adjust Reference & Times (Optional)

  • Edit reference or use auto-increment for sequences (e.g., ABC-1 → ABC-2).

  • Set earliest/latest arrival times if needed.

💡 Tip: if you add "-1" at the end of your Reference in the Template, when creating multiple Routes from the same template, the counter will automatically increase.

Create Route

  • You can either select "Create Route", to make the panel close automatically when you are done, or "Create and add another" to keep creating Routes from the same template, for other drivers or other days.

  • Confirmation message appears.

  • Route appears in the Routes List with “Not Approved” Status, ready to be assigned to a Driver, a Contractor or a Reservation.

Best Practices

🏷️ Use clear names and tags to make templates easy to find.

🔄 Keep templates updated with the latest route details.

📅 Plan for repetition — set up templates for common shifts or service areas.

✅ Validate before use to avoid last-minute errors.

⏩ Leverage auto-increment for creating multiple sequential routes fast.

🪟 Create a view to easily identify the Routes you created from a Template

Conclusion

Route Templates help your operations team work faster, smarter, and with fewer errors. By standardizing route creation, you save time, ensure consistency, and improve communication with drivers — keeping your logistics smooth and efficient.

FAQs

Can I edit a template after creating it?
Yes — you can update any details but changes only apply to future routes created from that template.

What happens if a template is invalid?
It won’t appear in the selection dropdown. You’ll need to fix validation issues (e.g., missing stops, wrong Pickup/Delivery order).

Can I use templates for one-stop routes?
No — templates must have at least two stops.

Will times from the template carry over to the route?
Yes, but you can adjust earliest/latest arrival times when creating the route.

Does auto-increment work automatically?
Yes, if your reference ends in a number (e.g., “Route-1”), the next one will auto-increment for each route you create in sequence.
