Capacity, Energy & Fuel Surcharge FAQ

Written by Monika Jurgutyte

What is the Capacity, Energy & Fuel Surcharge?

The Capacity, Energy & Fuel Surcharge is a combined surcharge covering costs related to capacity, energy and fuel. It is applied as a percentage of the invoiced transport amount and appears as a separate line on the invoice.

What does the surcharge cover?

The surcharge covers three categories of costs:

  1. Capacity - additional costs of securing transport capacity in periods of market pressure, including higher compensation to hauliers as their operating costs rise.

  2. Energy - electricity and heating for warehouse, sorting and operations facilities, as well as energy costs for Mover's IT platform and infrastructure.

  3. Fuel - diesel and petrol for the vehicles performing the transport, as well as electricity for charging electric vehicles.

How is the surcharge calculated?

The surcharge is calculated as a percentage of the total invoiced transport amount. The surcharge is recalculated monthly and takes effect on the 1st of each month. The current and upcoming rate is published on Mover's website no later than the day before it takes effect, so customers can plan accordingly. In the event of extraordinary fluctuations in the energy markets, we reserve the right to make an extraordinary adjustment with seven days' notice.

How does Mover's surcharge compare to the market?

Mover has deliberately chosen a conservative approach. Our surcharge is set significantly below what is broadly charged in the transport industry for comparable services. This is part of our business model: we absorb a large share of the rising energy and capacity costs ourselves, because we create value for our customers over time by keeping surcharges as low as possible.

Where can I find the current rate?

The current rate appears on all estimates and invoices from the effective date and is updated on Mover's website in line with monthly adjustments.

Where can I ask questions?
